“The best remedy for those who are afraid, lonely or unhappy is to go outside, somewhere where they can be quiet, alone with the heavens, nature and God. Because only then does one feel that all is as it should be and that God wishes to see people happy, amidst the simple beauty of nature.”
-Anne Frank

In the modern scenario, stress is so common that the need for peace, tranquillity and an escape from the daily routine of a protective lifestyle, becomes stronger. Today, there are several ways to ease the mind from the worries of everyday life—going to gym, meditating, kick-boxing, yoga, etc. But the true pleasure we feel on witnessing the colours of a sunset or walking along a beach is inexplicable. Nature’s purity takes you away from civilisation, from the bustling crowds, deafening traffic, constant chatter, work pressure and the claws of innumerable responsibilities.

Being in nature transports you to another world, a place where peace and happiness are your only friends. Nature’s spellbinding aura can soothe your soul, calm your mind and relax your body. Its beauty is priceless; the wide blue sky, the lush green trees, the silent ocean, the warmth of the golden rays of the sun on your face, the cool sea breeze pleasing your senses. Nature’s mesmerising effects can be felt in its endless unspoken powers.

Imbibe nature’s freshness by taking a quiet walk on the wet green grass. Walking relieves you from stress, back pain and chronic fatigue, besides being one of the most relaxing methods of exercise. Walking in the midst of nature’s serene surroundings is blissful, as the scenic beauty and picturesque landscape can make irrelevant thoughts vanish. When the mind is no longer busy processing old information, space is created for the universal vibration of nature to enter into our being. These vibrations cannot be experienced unless we silence the thoughts that fill our minds. By walking through nature in quiet observation, the changing scenery draws us outside our internal chatter, where we can tune in to the subtle rhythm of the earth. Letting nature’s splendour seep in through our eyes, ears and sense of smell, replaces repetitive thoughts that build stress. Patterns in nature affect our entire being and create a flow of consciousness that leads to pure awareness.

Walking outdoors as a regular workout has been found to be easier to maintain than walking on a treadmill indoors. The best places are parks that offer unpaved paths so that there is less

distance between the feet and the earth. Walking for 30 minutes to 1 hour daily is ideal, but even 10-minute walks can be beneficial. The seaside is an ideal place to wash away the clutter accumulating in the mind. Its graceful simplicity should be embraced with open arms. Meditating or practising yoga by the sea provides deep relaxation.

Visualising images of nature can work as a powerful antidepressant. It can reduce stress and also help in the recovery of hospital patients. Imagine a vivid setting: tall trees, green leaves, fragrant flowers, chirping birds, butterflies of various hues, delicate rays of the sun, dew drops with a velvet sheen and the warm breeze, and let nature’s energy invigorate you. Focusing on nature’s imagery can pull us out of our mental prisons where limited thinking binds us to the narrow existence of the human construct.

Nature need not be a distant destination accessible only by the vacationing rich; it can be accessed by enjoying our gardens or bringing plants inside our homes. Exploring nature encourages deep listening, that allows us to reconnect with earth’s healing energy and open our hearts beyond self-importance. As the mind is calmed from useless, self-indulgent thoughts that cause strain, the body feels more alive. So, succumb to nature’s healing and weave its path to bond with a deeper meaning of life.
