Adventure activities
Adventure activities that are held at Dharamshala are high altitude trekking, rock climbing, river crossing and short duration treks. These are held between April to June and October to December.
Tea Garden Trek
Trek through the tea garden and Kandi village covers 5 km both ways. The unique part of the trek is to see Goddess Feti Mata in a split rock. It is arranged form 7 AM to 9 AM.
Aghanjar Mahadev Temple Trek
This treck is to the Mahadev (Lord Shiva) temple by the river stream. This temple is known for the special arti of one hour everyday at different timings. The temple is situated inside a cave. The treck covers 8 km both ways and is arranged from 7 AM to 11 AM.
Indru Nag Temple Trek
This treck is to Indru Nag temple through the local village. You can enjoy the scenic view from Indru Nag temple. This treck covers 12 km both ways and is arranged from 7 AM to 12 PM.
Triund and Ilaka Trek
Drive to Mcleodganj and trek to Triund peak and Ilaka peak where you can touch and feel the snow. The tareck covers 30 km both ways and is arranged from 6 AM to 6 PM.
Mcleodganj and Bhagsunath Temple Tour
This tour covers visit to Mcleodganj, the residence of Dalai Lama, the impressive monastery and the old temple of Bhagsunath with a fresh water spring. On the way to Mcleodganj, visit St. John’s Church where a memorial of Lord Elgin has been erected who died in Dharamshala in 1863. Visit Dal lake for boating and enjoy a visit to Naddi, which offers a breathtaking view of the Dhauladhar mountain range to the north and the vast expanse of the lush Kangra valley to the south. At Dharamshala visit the temple of Mata Kunal Pathri and the War Memorial.
Kangra Fort Tour
This tour covers visit to Brijeshwari Temple and Kangra Fort. The Kangra Fort is sited on a precipitous cliff overhanging the Ban Ganga and Manjhi rivers. Bath can be availed at Ban Ganga. An earthquake destroyed the palace and the fort in 1905. The ruins still dominate the Kangra valley. In the courtyard, there are two temples, one of Lakshminarayan and the other of Ambika Devi, a family goddess of Katoch. A Jain temple with Adinath in stone image can also be visited.
Jwalamukhi Temple Tour
Jwalamukhi is dedicated to the "Goddess of Light". The temple is one of the most popular Hindu temples in northern India. An eternally burning and shining blue flame emanates from the rock sanctum and is fed by the priests with the offerings of devotees. This flame is considered as a manifestation of the Goddess. The golden tower (dome) of the temple was a gift from Emperor Akbar. Two important fairs are held here during the Navratras in earlier April and mid October.
Tapovan Tour
This tour includes visit to Gyuto Tantric Monastrey and Norbulingka Institute. The Gyuto Monastery is a place of worship for the Tibetans. Norbulingka Institute is committed to the preservation of Tibetan culture. Norbulingka institute promotes statue making, Thangka painting, applique needlework, tailoring and woodwork. Also visit Tapovan, which has the Chinmaya ashram. End the tour with a visit to Aghanzar Mahadev Shiv temple. A guide is must for this tour. This tour is not conducted on Sundays as Norbulingka Institute is closed.
Chintapurni Temple Tour
Chintapurni temple is the Shrine of Parvathi Devi, where the feet of Goddess Parvathi is said to have fallen when she embraced Sati. The idol of Chhina Mastaka the killer of the demon Nishumbha is in the Chintapurni temple. Revered by the Hindus, the Goddess is known as the remover of all troubles. Crowds are greater during a ten-day fair held in the month of August each year.
Baba Baroh Temple Tour
Baroh is famous for the temple of Radha Krishnan with black and white marble and idol of Durga, which is made of metal. The drive to Baroh through pine forests is enjoyable.
Baijnath Shiva Temple and Art Gallery Tour

Meeting His Holiness Dalai Lama and Karmapa
His Holiness Dalai Lama has no fixed dates to visit Dharamsala. Whenever he visits Dharamsala a public audience takes place at the Mcleodganj monastery for which an appointment is not required. His Holiness Dalai Lama doesn’t entertain personal audience. Karmapa’s public audience takes place every Wednesday and Saturday from 2 PM to 3 PM at Gyuto Tantric Monastery for which an appointment is not required. For a personal audience with Karmapa an appointment has to be taken through his PR Mr. Thuptan Shyras at the following numbers : 01892 – 236637, 236154.
